A new method for solving the inverse scattering problem for acoustic waves in an inhomogeneous medium

چکیده
A new method is presented for solving the inverse scattering problem of determining the speed of sound in an inhomogeneous medium from the far-field data. If F (a; k , 6 ) are the far-field data corresponding to an incident plane wave with wavenumber k moving in the direction & and F j , ( f ; k , &) are the far-field data for a ball no containing the inhomogeneous region and satisfying an impedance boundary condition on dRo, then this new method is based on determining a function g E L2(aQ), where aQ is the unit sphere, such that L * [ F ( t ; k , & ) -Fj.(t;k,&)]g(P)ds(f) = 1. This approach eliminates the problem of transmission eigenvalues that was inherent in our previous work on this problem.

Inverse Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering Theory
This paper is a survey of the inverse scattering problem for time-harmonic acoustic and electromagnetic waves at fixed frequency. We begin by a discussion of “weak scattering” and Newton-type methods for solving the inverse scattering problem for acoustic waves, including a brief discussion of Tikhonov’s method for the numerical solution of ill-posed problems. We then proceed to prove a uniquen...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Hessian for Inverse Scattering Problems. Part II: Inverse Medium Scattering of Acoustic Waves
We address the inverse problem for scattering of acoustic waves due to an inhomogeneous medium. We derive and analyze the Hessian in both Hölder and Sobolev spaces. Using an integral equation approach based on Newton potential theory and compact embeddings in Hölder and Sobolev spaces, we show that the Hessian can be decomposed into two components, both of which are shown to be compact operator...

This paper presents a general formulation to investigate the scattering from Multilayer Lossy Inhomogeneous Metamaterial Planar Structure (MLIMPS) with arbitrary number of layers and polarization. First, the dominating differential equation of transverse components of electromagnetic fields in each layers derived. Considering the general form of solution of the differential equations and the bo...

We consider the scattering of time harmonic electromagnetic plane waves by a bounded, inhomogeneous dielectric medium that is partially coated by a thin metallic layer in R. We use far field pattern of the scattered waves at a fixed frequency as data to determine the support D of the inhomogeneous obstacle, the surface conductivity that characterizes the coating and the relative permittivity. N...
متن کاملInverse medium scattering for the Helmholtz equation at fixed frequency
Consider a time-harmonic electromagnetic plane wave incident on a medium enclosed by a bounded domain in R2. In this paper, existence and uniqueness of the variational problem for the direct scattering are established. An energy estimate for the scattered field is obtained on which the Born approximation is based. The Fréchet differentiability of the scattering map is examined. A new continuati...
